This delightful plate depicts a naive portrait of a courting couple sitting together in a nature setting. They are intertwined gazing at a winged cupid above them. This lovely portrait is decorated in transfer technique and hand painting, signed by the artist L. The portrait is bordered by a rich green ground with a continuous pattern of stencil gilt floral representations. It is mounted on a Rococo inspired gilt ormolu tri-foot stand.
It has a pair of exaggerated foliate and scrolled handles. The three feet are boast sheeves of banded wheat and floral motifs. This fine plate on stand measures approx. 5 1/4" tall to handle tip, with a handle-to-handle dimension of 12 1/2", and a plate diameter of just over 11. It is signed on the bottom with the Sevres maker's mark which may be pseudo and a covered makers mark.
It is surely French, possibly Limoges. The stand is also marked made in France. It is in excellent condition, with no damage to the plate or stand.
This is a lovely, desirable decorative piece and will truly to be fine addition to your French porcelain collection/exceptional decor. Please check my other auctions for nice antiques, collectibles and such.
