EXTREMELY RARE PAIR OF COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG RUNNING MAN DOORSTOPS OR BOOKENDS MADE BY MAX RIEG AT THE GEDDY FOUNDRY IN COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG CA 1947. RIEG WAS BROUGHT TO THE US FROM EUROPE BY COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG TO BECOME THE HEAD THE METALS TRADES IN THE 1930'S. HE STARTED THE GEDDY FOUNDRY TO DEMONSTRATE MAKING OF BRASS AND PEWTER ITEMS AS DONE IN THE 18TH CENTURY AS WELL AS MAKING GOLD AND SILVER ITEMS AT THE SIGN OF THE GOLDEN BALL SILVER SHOP. RIEG LEFT COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG AROUND 1950 TO START HIS OWN METALWORKING BUSINESS HERE IN WILLIAMSBURG. HE HAS SINCE PASSED AWAY.
THESE ARE A PAIR THAT WAS MADE AT THE FOUNDRY. ORIGINAL OWNERS HAD PASSED THESE TO THEIR DAUGHTER FROM WHOM I ACQUIRED THESE AS WELL AS SEVERAL OTHER ITEMS TO BE LISTED. HAND CAST AND HAND FINISHED. THESE MEASURE 7 1/4 HIGH. RARE PIECES OF COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG HISTORY.
