Pair of Vintage Framed Spanish Oil Paintings of Young Couple by JUAN ANTONIO

  
Exquisite style of realism with very bold colors. I have enjoyed these wonderful paintings in my home since my father acquired these while stationed in Chipiona Spain in the mid 1960s. Each painting is just a slightly different size. The framed young man measures 29 5/8 wide x 34 1/4 tall x 1 1/2 deep.

The canvas painting measures approximately 24 1/2 x 29. The framed young woman measures 29 wide x 34 1/4 tall by 1 1/2 deep. The canvas painting measures approximately 23 3/4 x 29. Both paintings are signed in the lower right corner.

The paintings are in good condition for their age. No flakes or damage but small (what looks like unpainted) brush strokes can be seen in a couple spots (see closeup photos). The frames are original with very slight damage to the gold paint on a couple places (see closeup frame pictures). Feel free to request more closeup pictures if desired. Juan Antonio Rodríguez Hernández (11 October 1922 January 2017) was a Spanish painter from Seville, the son of the well known painter Rafael Blas Rodríguez, who became his principal teacher. He completed his studies at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Crafts and, from 1940, at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes. Since the completion of his studies in 1946 he has obtained many distinctions: the award of the Directorate General of Fine Arts at the Autumn Exhibition of Seville (1982) and that of the Royal Master of Cavalry of Seville at the aforementioned Autumn Exhibition of 1987. He has taught as a teacher of color at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes in Seville. From his painting it has been said that it is a song to life, for the joy, optimism and beauty that he knows how to convey through brushes. The religious genre is the most representative of Juan Antonio's work. Juan Antonio was the author of the drawings of the ceramic cloths that decorate the facade of the church of Lord San José de Sevilla (1973).

With regard to the works related to the brotherhoods, cite the monumental canvases of La Coronación de la Virgen (1965) and Las Animas Benditas del Purgatorio (1964) in the chapel of the Sailors, seat of the Brotherhood of Hope of Triana, of purity street of Seville; the ceramic paintings of the Capilla del Cachorro also in Seville. He is the author of the Cloth of the Veronica for the Brotherhood of El Valle (Seville), made in 1991; and the image of the Virgin of the Ancient that appears in the "Glory" of the pallium pass of the Dolorosa del Cerro del Aguila.
