51 cm x 35 cm frame size. Born in London & lived in Edmonton. He was a painter of landscapes & rustic scenes. He was an outstanding favorite in the Victorian era for the clarity and simplicity of his style.

His subjects covered almost all of England and Wales, with a preference for Devonshire and views along the Thames near London. He is typical of the landscape artists inaugurated by Thomas Creswick who followed in the path of the Constable with his accent on greenery. Soper exhibited at the Royal Society of Artists, British Institution, Dudley Gallery, Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, Walker Art Gallery, Manchester City Art Gallery, Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Hibernian Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and Royal Institute of Painters. The Museum of Reading [also Brighton Art Gallery & Godalming Museum] hold Soper paintings in their permanent collections.
