Pair Of Jean Gille Hand Painted French Portrait Plaques Signed & Dated 1845

  
This is an absolutely stunning pair of French Portrait plaques. They are marked on the verso as being produced by Jean Gille, the famous maker of Porcelain figurines from the mid 19th Century. The paintings depict Marie-Louise Mesnage and her husband Charles-Francoise Antoine Desrey. The painting are phenomenally well done and are signed by the artist on the lower left margins of the plaques. I have been trying to identify the artist but I've had no luck. Based on the quality of the work, I find it very hard to believe that these were painted by a random artist. It's likely that someone will recognize the signature. The paintings are dated 1845.

The sight size of the pieces are 6 1/8" by 7 1/8" and they have a framed size of 11" by 12". There is information about the two sitters on the backs of the frames but the backs were removed in order to photograph the marks on the porcelain. They will be sent along with the pieces.

I've been searching for a week and have found no other examples of portrait plaques made by Jean Gille. Couple this rarity with the quality of the paintings and you've got something very special.
