A Pair of Art Deco Pelican patinated mixed metal and marble bookends signed L. In 1918/19 Le Verrier rented an atelier in Paris, in Rue du Theatre, where he started his career as a reference for the Art deco period.
The pelican model is one of his first sculptures, of great success at the foundation of his workshop in 1919 and was signed Artus (Max Le Verrier pseudonym). He was in charge of all the process, this is founding, chasing and the patina for each work of art. Overall very good age appropriate condition with minor chips to the marble bases corners at the base consistent with age and wear. It measures 4 3/4 H x 4 D x 3 1/4 W. 12 cm H x 10 cm D x 8 cm W.
