Pair of Champlevé Enamel Candlesticks Stamped Henri Journet. A beautiful pair of candlesticks stamped by the prestigious Compagnie des Marbres Onyx d'Algérie, directed around 1878 by Henri Journet. Stamp under the candlesticks: Sté des Onyx Henri Journet & Cie, 24 Bd des Italiens. Good condition, slight wear to the gilding. A former Parisian company specializing in luxury objects combining bronze, champlevé enamels, and Algerian onyx marble.

Eugène CORNU, a sculptor-decorator, was the director of the Compagnie des Marbres et Onyx d'Algérie, previously managed by A. Pallu & Co, and later by his successor, G. After Cornu's death in 1875, the company was taken over by Henri Journet, whose name it then adopted. Eugène Cornu's creations were showcased at the Universal Exhibitions in London (1862, 1871, 1872) and Paris (1867), where he won a gold medal for an important pair of vases made of onyx, bronze, and enamel. The Compagnie des Marbres et Onyx d'Algérie also participated in the Universal Exhibition in Philadelphia (1876) and Paris (1878). It produced objects based on designs by Albert Carrier-Belleuse, Charles Cordier, and Louis-Alfred Barrias. In 1878, its store was located at 24 Boulevard des Italiens, Paris.
