A fine pair of antique Chinese porcelain prunas or plum Blossom vases of beaker shape painted in underglaze blue cobalt with a cracked ice ground. Four figure markers mark to bases. As an emblem of winter it is regarded as a symbol for long life , endurance and hope because the blossom appear on the seemingly lifeless , dead branches , ever those of an advanced age , while snow still covers the ground. The plum is one of the three friends of winter.
The cracked ice represents the cracking of winter ice with the first sign of spring. Both vases in reasonable condition. Small section of 4cm by 1cm has been broken off and glued back to the rim. The other has a 7cm by 3cm section that has been broken off and glued back to rim. They are large attractive vases that display well.
