Stunning pair of mid 19th Century urn shape, cobalt ground urns mounted as lamps and retailed by Nicholas Haydon with hand-painted gilded scrolls with central cartouches. Each urn features hand-painted courting scenes, signed'Lancry', the reverse painted with landscape views, with sides having gilt-bronze medallions and bronze mounts.
The urns are mounted as lamps on gold damask fabric covered wood tiers, base retains the original foil lamp sticker'Nicholas Haydon Lamps & Shades 29 West 56th St NYC North Ave Palm Beach' E. Lancry was a renowned painter of French porcelains in the mid 19th Century.Lamps measure 28" high to top of finial (Urn mount is 12 ½" high to top of cap) Lamp is 23" high to top of socket x 6 ¾" x 6 ¾ at base. Lamps are in overall Exceptional antique condition, note the lamps have their original wiring and work without issue, there is very minimal paint loss to urns with some minor tarnishing to the gilt paint. The urns are slightly loose and do turn as they are attached in two pieces and are currently attached and cannot be tightened without removing from the lamp bases. The lamp is very secure and stable and once in desired place, does not move.
The damask fabric, possibly made of silk, shows some wear and is frayed in areas showing through the wood underneath. A fine addition to any home or collection! All items come from a smoke free home.
