Nice pair of large antique Chinese lacquer on wood panels. They are over 3ft in height. The quality of the painting is high with a large amount of gold gilt. One features a bird of prey (eagle, hawk, or falcon) and one features a proud rooster. The panel with the rooster is signed in Chinese seal script. The signature is hard to decipher I'm told. It features the artists name and a title or description of the paining. The panels show age related wear. They seem to both have been repaired. It appears there were splits in the wood panels that were repaired by a professional.
You can see the splits but the repairs were done artistically and don't take away from the artwork. Environmental conditions impact wood greatly, particularly heat/cold and humidity levels. It's incredibly common for old wooden objects to have age related splits.
It's actually uncommon for wooden objects over one hundred years old to not have splits or cracks in them. There is some scuffing which should polish out or be easily buffed. Otherwise the original artwork has survived beautifully intact. The birds and their surrounding are beautifully executed. They have wire mounted on the backs for easy hanging. Dimensions are 38" x 20 1/2".
The weight is approximately 9 1/2lbs each. Feel free to ask any question you may have. This item is in the category "Antiques\Asian Antiques\China\Paintings & Scrolls".
