Early/Mid 20th century Neapolitan School, Pair of Watercolors after Pompeiian Mural Paintings, Signed Tonio Ciro. For your consideration is a beautiful pair of matching watercolor studies.Made after the murals of Pompeii, both feature putti with chariots scenes. Both are titled in gouache: "Pompei-Amorini corsa in bighe", and depict details from the friezes of the Pompeian Casa dei Vetti. Corsa in bighe is the classical Roman chariot pulled by two horses, which in these murals were replaced by deer, possibly more suitable for the little playful cherubs - amorini. The watercolors are original and neatly signed, Tonio Ciro or similar. Additional research may provide better identification of the artist.
