Iconic Signed Paul Frankl Johnson Furniture Tall Pair of Chest Drawers Dressers
This sophisticated pair of matching high chests were designed by Paul Frankl for the Johnson Furniture Company, circa late 1940s-early 1950s. The coveted Johnson hallmark is incised inside. The pair is a prime example of Frankl's midcentury work, which was influenced by Minimalism, Asian architecture and design, and California modernism. Deceivingly minimal, the chest features seven elegantly proportioned drawers that cantilever over a base. The drawers alternate in height, each featuring a pair of Frankl's iconic X- pulls in brass. The condition is fair and they will need to be restored at some point. With its clean lines and timeless form, this high chest would be a winning addition to any style of interior from Classic Mid-Century Modern to contemporary.
The wood appears to be some sort of beech wood given the color but could be a light walnut also. Johnson/Frankl style numbers are present on back as well. Why not own the best?
