Joseph is an American Folk Art Painter who primarily created miniature portraits for many wealthy and important people. He began his life as a siversmith apprentice where he would admire the portraits that came into the shop for framing. It was there where he knew what his true calling was and that was creating art.

Early on he learned the trade by copying the works that were in the shop wich allowed him to practice during the day. In 1801 he decided to become a full time painter and studied with Edward G. Where he ended up passing away in 1830. Joseph has pieces in the MET, Smithsonian and Virginia Musuem of History and has become a recognised and important American Folk Artist.

This pair of portraits are constructed of a mixed media collage on paper and are housed in a nice tondo frame with an acorn finial. Both of the portraits are Signed and dated "Joseph Wood 1812". The manner and style of these portraits are unique in that Joseph usually made portraits or silhouettes and didn't combine the two often. The portraits are of a man and woman presumably husabnd and wife and are both wearing outfits of matching color schemes with a light beige and white accents.

Overall nice condition with soem losses to the reverse of the portraits shown in the photos. With that please review all the photos.
