It seems appropriate to keep this couple together as Haddon probably intended so we are offering as a pair. The fisherman and his wife reminds us that today's Cornish villages once worked mainly on sea and land, neither of which were an easy existence. Haddon was a Birmingham born artist who spent time painting in Newlyn, Cornwall perhaps inspired by other Birmingham (then Newlyn School) artists Walter Langley and Edwin Harris. Haddon though focused his work on the people of the Cornish coastal communities and painted close, head and shoulder portraits, typically of seafaring men and women. Haddon exhibited at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool. Ian Emmerson Paintings was established in 1975 and was incorporated in 1997.
