Antique 19th C Pair Of French Sevres Urns Ormolu Porcelain 20.75 Signed Granet
Antique 19th century pair of stunning urns with bronze mounted finials, handles and base, blue cobalt field with gilt highlights and hand painted classical courting scenes. Both signed Granet (1775 - 1849). Bears the authentic Sevres crossed double L (double Luis XV) mark with a D inside, at the bottom. Height: 20 3/4 (53 cm) tall from base to tip of ormolu mount on top of lid. Width: 9 (23 cm) at widest point. Base: 5 (13 cm) x 5 (13 cm). Weight: 7 lb 5 oz the painted with the lady w/umbrella and 6 lb 14 oz the one with the lady without umbrella. The previous owner glued the lids and they cannot be twisted to separate them from the body. 0therwise the urns are in excellent condition.

Collecting Sevres Porcelain is probably one of the best investments you could make. François Marius Granet (1775 - 1849) one of the great French painters is quoted on Galignani's New Paris Guide book (1827): on pag 79 paintings on the Salle des Sep Cheminees Museum of the Louvre; on pag 163 paintings on the Salle du Counceil of Palaise of Tuileries; pag 338. Paintings on Palaise of Luxembourg; pag 499 paintings on salon d Attente of Chateau St.
Cloud and on the guide from 1858 on pag 516 paintings on panels of the ceiling of Palaise of Fointanebleau. See reference in Google books. The Museum of Fine Arts in Aix-en-Provence opened in 1838. Was named Granet Museum in 1949 to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the legacy to his hometown.
A whole room of the museum is dedicated to Granet whose personal collection formed the original basis of the Museum.
