Watercolour on paper on a coloured ground, accentuated with white body colour. Visible painting, each, 33.5 x 20.75cm (13 x 8 inches), frame, each, 51 x 36cm (20 x 14 inches).

Very good for their age; colourfast with strong contrast; against a buff-brown ground, creates an early morning winter light, is in the work - the paintings are fresh and relatively clean for its age. Original frames, Northamptonshire framer' Poole's labels verso, square nailed so these paintings have not been disturbed in well over 100 years. Weight, each, 1.5kg framed, combined and professionally packaged, 4kgs. Both signed lower left and will date to around 1895. Henry W Henley was a prolific Victorian painter of landscapes and rural scenes, working primarily in oils. Many of his works can be found in watercolours, possibly preparatory sketches for later oil paintings. He was active c1890 - 1900. Presented in very good overall condition in original frames, these paintings will look fabulous displayed.
